Mandy
Shortly after we got the initial group of horses (Jeannie and her husband
delivered them, as I hadn't decided we needed another trailer yet), Carolyn
and Jeannie were talking on the phone and Carolyn mentioned we should have a
companion for Moondancer. I didn't know this, of course, so I was pretty
surprised when Jeannie showed up with the trailer, again, and delivered all
kinds of neat stuff: a cart, saddle, buckets, manure rakes, and .... Mandy.
Mandy was a frightened 3 month old filly, with a beautiful coat. There's
actually 2 distinct shades of brown, so I was firmly informed she was not a
PINTO, but a TRI-COLOR!
She's turned out to be a perfect little mare, from the first Surprise
delivery to the present. She seems to have no problem with delivery and is a
perfect mother. In fact she's too good, still let's Dancer suckle and he's
18 months old!
Carolyn was pretty disappointed when foal number 3 wasn't followed a year
later by number 4, and blames me because I'd resisted her getting bred again
immediately. Windy was born rather late in the year and I didn't think much
of having a foal in the late fall again, since my opinion is that they
should be somewhat older to face that first winter. We thought she took
again in the spring, but no foal, and then the same thing this year.
Hopefully she's going to carry again soon, I've been trying to convince
Carolyn to leave Mandy in MoonDancer's pasture -- he loves the company, of
course.
